Australian postcode 2340 is centred on Tamworth, the major regional city of New England NSW and widely known as Australia’s “Country Music Capital,” offering a relatively self-contained regional lifestyle with good healthcare, education, shopping, employment and cultural facilities. The 2021 Census recorded about 35,400 people in the Tamworth urban area, with a median age of 37, while the broader Tamworth region serves a much larger rural population; median weekly household income was $1,328 and median rent $300 at the time. The city is an important service and employment centre for the surrounding agricultural region, particularly livestock, agriculture, agribusiness, health, education, retail and government, and has facilities such as Tamworth Hospital and Tamworth Shoppingworld, together with substantial sporting and entertainment infrastructure. The surrounding countryside provides a distinctly inland Australian lifestyle, with larger properties and agricultural communities, while Tamworth itself has most of the services expected of a regional city; summers can be hot, winters cool, and a car is useful for both city and surrounding rural areas. Overall, 2340 is a strong example of a regional service hub supporting a large dispersed agricultural hinterland, making it particularly relevant to the regional-network model you have been examining for SENA.
