SENA – Technical

The technical component of the SENA Project is the foundation that enables its vision of distributed infrastructure, employee-owned data, modular applications and trusted data exchange. SENA has been developed through a progressive prototyping approach, testing how HR data, AI, modular applications and distributed infrastructure can work together before moving toward a production-scale network architecture.

From Prototype to Distributed Network

The SENA prototype has provided a practical environment in which to demonstrate key concepts including standardised HR data, modular applications, AI integration, data validation, employee capability profiles and the exchange of information between organisations and people. Technologies such as Salesforce and Confluence have been used as prototype and development environments to prove aspects of the concept. They are not intended to define or constrain the final SENA architecture.

The next stage is to transition these concepts toward a distributed, Edge-based architecture, where organisations and individuals can operate with greater control over their own data and applications rather than depending entirely upon a centralised HR software platform or cloud database.

The Role of Holochain

Holochain is being considered as a key distributed technology foundation for SENA. Its agent-centric architecture provides a fundamentally different model from conventional centralised databases and traditional blockchain networks. Rather than requiring all participants to maintain their data on one central platform, participants can maintain their own local source of truth while interacting through agreed application rules and network protocols.

This characteristic is particularly relevant to SENA’s vision of Employee Data Ownership and Portability. An individual’s employment identity, credentials, experience, capability information and other authorised data could potentially remain under the individual’s control while being selectively shared with employers, professional bodies or other authorised parties. The individual does not have to surrender permanent custody of their data simply because an organisation needs access to it.

Holochain therefore has a potential role beyond simply being the technology underneath a network. It can provide the distributed trust and data-exchange layer through which SENA Microgrids, organisations and individuals interact.

Edge Computing and Local Capability

SENA combines distributed technology with Edge computing, enabling data processing and applications to operate closer to the people and organisations using them. This can reduce dependence on distant centralised infrastructure while supporting resilience, privacy, local processing and potentially lower latency.

The resulting architecture is intended to support a new generation of modular HR and business applications. Rather than organisations being required to adopt a single large, centralised HR platform, applications can be assembled around specific business capabilities and connected through trusted data-exchange mechanisms.

An Evolving Architecture

SENA is therefore not a single software product. It is an architecture and operating model for distributed digital capability.

The technical journey can be expressed simply:

Prototype → Validate the Concepts → Establish the Distributed Architecture → Deploy SENA Microgrids → Connect Organisations and People → Build the Trusted Global Network

The objective is to combine Holochain, Edge computing, AI, distributed data, modular applications and secure connectivity into an infrastructure capable of supporting a more resilient and human-centred digital economy.

The prototype demonstrated what is possible. Holochain provides a potential foundation for how it can be distributed.
